MUSICAL THEATRE CLASS DESCRIPTION-Selections for JUNGLE BOOK - Ages 7-12
Let the kids have a Broadway blast this June in a musical theatre class offered by Dallas Summer Musicals Academy of Performing Arts. In this program, students concentrate on Broadway style dance training along with acting and singing skills taught by multiple DSM Academy instructors. Selections from the score and script of JUNGLE BOOK are used to strengthen performance skills.
The jungle is jumpin’ with singing, dancing and acting in Selections from The Jungle Book. This 30 minute version is adapted from the classic film and includes such tunes, like “The Bare Necessities,” and “I Wan’na Be Like You.”
On the run from Shere Khan, a ferocious tiger who has banished him from the jungle, a human boy named Mowgli is aided by an agile panther named Bagheera. Along the way, the two meet a sinister snake named Kaa, a herd of elephants, and a giant bear named Baloo, who teaches them the swingin’ musical rhythms of the jungle. After surviving a dangerous encounter with a band of monkeys led by King Louie, Mowgli and Bagheera are forced to run for their lives. Shere Khan returns, leading our protagonists to rally their fellow jungle creatures into battle and restore peace to the jungle.

About the Show
With an infectiously unforgettable score from the four-time Grammy-winner, three-time Oscar-winner, and musical theatre giant Stephen Schwartz (WICKED, GODSPELL, CHILDREN OF EDEN), Pippin has been successfully produced on stages ranging from High School to Broadway. Sweeping the New York Awards circuit (TONY, Drama Desk, Drama League, Outer Critics Circle) in 2013, Pippin continues to captivate the young at heart throughout the world.
In the Middle Ages heir to the Frankish throne, prince Pippin, searches for the secret to true happiness and fulfillment. He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of love and the intrigues of political power (after disposing of his father King Charlemagne the Great). In the end Pippin discovers that happiness lies not in extraordinary endeavors, but rather in the un-extraordinary moments that happen every day.
Performances of PIPPIN are Saturday July 25, 2015, 1 & 4pm at Dallas Children’s Theatre in the Rosewood Center for Family Arts, 5938 Skillman St., Dallas, TX 75231. Each student receives 4 complimentary tickets to either the 1 or 4pm show. Additional tickets are a $10 donation each. There is a costume fee of $35. The mandatory technical rehearsals are Thursday, July 23 and Friday July 24, 5:30-10pm at Dallas Children’s Theatre. No theatrical experience is necessary to participate.
